Aino Korva Williams is a member of the Dixie Club. She held the title of Miss Denmark in 1963 and was 1st runner-up in the Miss Universe Pageant. Here are Aino's remarks about these beautiful paintings:

I had the honor of being asked to hand paint the national gift from my native country Denmark for the Miss Universe pageant 2015. It has been customary for decades that each contestant bring a gift that somehow resembles or has relation to her country. I came across a study by Jane Wright and Kathy Lewis and could hardly believe how perfect it was for this occasion. The Daisy (Marguerite) is the national flower of Denmark and the Forget-me-nots are often used as official flower emblems to the Danish Kingdom. Denmark is the oldest island kingdom in the world. Queen Margrethe II is one of the most popular monarchs in Denmark history. At public functions she always wears a daisy-themed piece of jewelry and her nickname is Daisy. A few days before the Miss Universe pageant all the national gifts are auctioned at a public event and the proceeds go to charities such as Breast cancer and HIV research.

For 2016 I painted a vase with a swan, the national bird of Denmark, as my gift to be donated to the Miss Universe Organization's silent auction with the proceeds going to charity. I chose this study of the swan making a big splash as I wish for our beautiful Christina Mikkelsen to do the same when she represents our country Denmark at the upcoming Miss Universe Pageant in the Philippines.

Thank you Aino for sharing your story with us.
